Privacy Policy
The short version: we keep what a game needs to run and what your account needs to exist, we do not sell it or show ads, live video is never recorded, and you can export or delete your data from your profile. The long version follows.
1. What we collect
Guests. If you join a game without signing in, we store the display name you type, the room you joined, and what you do in that game (seat, role, votes, night picks, chat messages). A cookie keeps you in your seat if you reload.
Signed-in players. When you sign in with Google or Discord we receive your account id, email address, name, and avatar from that provider. We keep the email to identify your account and a profile with the handle, display name, and avatar you choose. We do not receive your password.
Games. Finished games are archived: room code, game name, roles, results, the chronicle of events, and the chat that happened in them. Archived games are linked to the accounts of the people who played or hosted so they can see their own history and stats.
Presence. While a game runs, your phone reports that it is still connected every few seconds so the moderator can see who is waiting. This stops when the game ends.
Video and audio. In modes with live video, your camera and microphone streams go to the other players through a media relay. They are not recorded or stored.
Technical data. Our hosting provider logs requests (IP address, browser, pages, timestamps) for security and to keep the site running.
2. Why we use it
- to run games: dealing roles, resolving nights, counting votes, delivering chat;
- to keep your account, handle, avatar, friends, and game history;
- to let moderators run their tables (seeing who is connected, who is waiting, who asked to watch);
- to keep the site safe: enforcing our Terms of Service, preventing abuse, fixing bugs;
- to improve the game, using aggregate statistics such as how often a role wins.
3. Legal basis
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom: we process account and game data to perform our contract with you (running the games you join), technical and safety data under our legitimate interest in keeping the site working and safe, and anything optional, such as sharing video, with your consent, which you give by turning the feature on and can withdraw by turning it off.
5. How long we keep it
Rooms and unfinished games are deleted automatically after a period of inactivity. Finished games are archived and kept as part of the site’s records. Your account exists until you delete it; deletion is scheduled with a short grace period, after which your account, profile, friends, and the links between you and archived games are removed. The archived game itself keeps only the display name you played under.
Hosting logs are kept for a limited period by our hosting provider and then discarded.
6. Your choices and rights
From your profile page you can change your handle, display name, and avatar, download a copy of your data, and delete your account. Depending on where you live you may also have rights to access, correct, restrict, or object to the processing of your data, and to complain to a data protection authority. Reach us through our contact page for anything the profile page does not cover.
8. Children
suspect.town is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will remove it.
9. Security
Data is stored with providers that encrypt it in transit and at rest, and the database is locked down so that only the site’s own server code can read it. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password with your Google or Discord account.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The effective date at the top tells you when it last changed. For material changes we will post a notice on the site.
11. Contact
